  Q Is IIT-JEE a tough examination?  
       
    IIT-JEE is not a tough examination but is a different examination. Unlike Board exams, IIT-JEE tests fundamentals and application of concepts and hence a different preparatory regimen is expected.  
   
 
 
       
    What is the maximum number of attempts that can be given for IIT-JEE ?  
       
    A General Category student can appear for the IIT-JEE till the age of 24 years.
A Reserved Category student can appear for the IIT-JEE till the age of 28 years.
 
   
 
 
       
    What is the pattern and syllabi of the IIT-JEE examination ?  
       
    IIT-JEE has changed its pattern and syllabi a number of times since its inception in 1961.
Typically the JEE has three subjects – Physics, Chemistry and Maths.
JEE is administered in two stages – Screening and MAINS.
Screening is conducted in April each year and is of Objective Type with negative marking
MAINS is conducted in May each year and is of Subjective Type. Students clearing the
Screening may only appear for the MAINS.
The syllabi is roughly the combined syllabi of XI and XII.
 
   
 
 
       
    Is there any reservation of seats for admissions through JEE?  
       
    Yes. IITs are governed by Central Govt. Regulations and all IITs have 15 % reservation for SC candidates and 7.5% reservation for ST candidates. Reservation of seats which may be transferable are also offered for physically handicapped students and defence personnel.  
   
 
 
       
    How many seats are there in the various IITs ?  
       
    About 2 lac students appear for the JEE Screening each year and 14000 are selected to appear for the MAINS. About 3500 students are finally selected and absorbed in the IITs and two more institutes – IT-BHU, Varanasi and ISM, Dhanbad. Each of the 7 IITs has approximately 500 seats per year.  
   
 
 
       
    Does preparation for IIT-JEE prepare a student for CET and AIEEE ?  
       
    Yes. Preparation for IIT-JEE constitutes complete preparation for all competitive exams like CET, AIEEE, CEE, BIT-SAT etc. The syllabi of IIT-JEE encompasses the syllabi of all other competitive exams. The level of difficulty of IIT-JEE is the highest and hence IIT-JEE preparation is sufficient for other exams. IIT-JEE is the mother of all competitive exams.  
   
 
 
       
    How many IITs are prevalent in India ?  
       
    There are 7 IITs in India at Mumbai, Delhi , Chennai, Kanpur , Kharagpur, Roorkee and Guwahati.  
   
 
 
       
    What does AIR mean ?  
       
    AIR means All India Rank. AIR is determined by the marks obtained in the MAINS exam. To secure a MAINS rank, a student is expected to clear the cut-off (passing) marks in each of the subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.  
   
 
 
       
    Which are the courses offered inside the IITs?  
       
    IITs offer courses in Engineering, Pure Sciences, Architecture, Design and Economics. There are various programs viz. B.Tech. (4 years), Dual M.Tech. (5 years), B.Arch.(5 years) and B.Des.(5 years).  
   
 
 
       
    Is there ragging inside the IITs?  
       
    Till 2001, ragging was rampant in India . Since 2002, strict measures have been taken by the authorities in IIT and no serious ragging incidents have been reported till date.  
   
 
 
       
    What future prospects exist for students after their graduation from the IITs?  
       
    The future prospects for students after their graduation from the IITs are bright. IITians are absorbed in leading corporate houses, universities, research labs, defence and space organizations as also in fields like civil services and consultancy. Many take up entrepreneurship.
